In my studio...

...I will build some snowmen!
Lloyd is made from a vintage feed sack with an old green wool Army scarf.
Flurry sports a knit cap ... and holds a bottlebrush tree.

I ♥ snowmen {especially when they are made from fabric and not the cold, wet stuff}.

Have a happy week!

She runs with scissors...

Found this GINORMOUS pair of scissors while out junkin' today!
I bet you're wondering...
"What is she planning to do with 2-foot long scissors?!"
I'm wondering the exact same thing.
But aren't they fun?!!
I think they'll look fabulous hanging in my studio.
And if I ever open a brick-and-mortar,
I'll be prepared to "cut the ribbon" at my grand opening!
; )
Hey...a girl can dream!
Happy Weekend!

Road Trip

I've wanted to experience Antique Week
in Round Top, Texas,
for many years...
and this week, I did!!
Hubby and I saddled up
{loaded the car}
and headed south.
Our first stop was Marburger Farm!
While At Marburger Farm, I had the pleasure of meeting
Rachel Ashwell...the Queen {Founder} of Shabby Chic!
She was signing copies of her newest book,
Couture Pairie and Flea Market Treasures.

We also experienced her ever-so-lovely store,
Rachel Ashwell Couture
located at her Bed and Breakfast, The Prairie.
Day 2...
We grabbed a quick breakfast before hitting the road
for another full day of antiquing
up and down the road from La Bahia to Warrenton!
It was HOT ... HUMID ... crowded ... and rainy ...
but we still had sew much fun!!
Happy Trails!

What inspires me...

I'm a bit odd!
{ I admit it. }
I don't just say to myself, "I will create a cowgirl doll today."
It's more complex than that.
It's the little things...
a button...
a tchotshke...
a trinket...
a vintage treasure...
more often than not, it's a silly little object that sparks my creativity.
And from that spark, a doll is born!

Calamity Jane is a perfect example.
It was a vintage toy Texas Ranger badge that moved me to create her.
I've had that badge for several years ...
it's been pinned to my inspiration board forever ...
to be used.
And then...
I found it!
A remnant of cowboy fabric!
The gears started turning...
and Calamity Jane came to life!
That, my friends, is why most of my dolls are one of a kind...
it's that one little vintage find...
that little spark of inspiration...
that moves me to create them!
That's my story...
and I'm sticking to it!

The Birthday Girl

Someone's celebrating a birthday soon {okay...on Friday}!
These { vintage } pictures were taken many moons ago
at my dress-up birthday party!
Notice the pink doll cake that my mom made ...
I loved dolls back then, too!

And the toy sewing machine { love! } that I received as a gift ...
maybe that's what started it all! ♥

All of this birthday talk inspired my newest creation,

"Start each day like it's your birthday!"
Here's to the next 365 days around the sun ...

Snow Way!

Snowmen in April?!
I'd like to pretend that I'm WAY ahead of the game...
thinking ahead...
on the ball...
but nope, that's simply not the case.
You see...
truth be told...
these snow guys were a special request made ...
oh ...
let's see...
{ Okay, okay! }
months ago!
I'd better go ...
pack them up ...
and ship them out ...
 before they melt!

It's still pretty chilly here in Texas ...
so I've spent the last couple of days
dreaming of the seashore!
My dreams spilt over onto the Rolodex cards
I created for a swap I'm participating in.
If I close my eyes ...
I can almost hear the seagulls.

...but I wish she'd come back!!
Hope it is sunshine-y in your little corner of the world!
Have a happy day!!
Off to enjoy a cuppa...

S is for...

Something I made!
I first spotted moss monograms on Pinterest { my guilty pleasure! } ...
and I promptly decided to make one for my front door.
There are plenty of tutorials on the web { just Google it
... but I followed this one.
I'm not sure why I decided on this particular tutorial
because it meant I had to purchase a glue gun.
Yep, you heard right! I don't own a glue gun.
Well, now I do ... but I didn't before.
Anyhow, to make a long story short
{ I won't bore you with how I ended up with 3rd degree burns on two of my fingers ...
another reason why I don't ~ didn't ~ own a glue gun! },
I am happy with how my moss monogram S turned out!
And the good news is,
I'm beginning to get the feeling back in my burnt fingers!!
Hope you have fun weekend plans!
