I love the beach!

I'm home from a vacation in Myrtle Beach (Murrell's Inlet), South Carolina! What an incredible week!! It was a family reunion that included my family, both of my siblings, their families, and my mom (it was no easy feat to get all of us in one place at the same time as we live in 4 different states  -  Texas, Nevada, Florida, and Georgia!). There were 15 of us ... and we stayed in a lovely beachfront home!

The home lived up to it's name .... "Stress Relief" !

The beach was in our backyard. We were mere steps away from the ocean!  Bliss!!

The view was incredible!

Early birds (me!) enjoyed spectacular sunrises each morning!

We played lots of cards and games ... had a movie night complete with cute red and white boxes filled with popcorn ... participated (as teams) in a scavenger hunt ... played with sparklers on the beach at night ... and enjoyed a Vegas night!

I've decided I want her job!

Each family was responsible for the preparation of one meal. My husand and I chose spaghetti. Easy, right? Wrong!! We found out we couldn't even boil water! It took well over an hour for the pot to boil (whoever said, "a watched pot never boils", was right on the money!!). How humiliating ... and to think I majored in Home Economics in college! The shame!!  I'm turning in my apron! :::sigh:::  And next time, we're ordering take-out!

It was a week filled with laughter, fun, and lots of happy memories!

Wishing you warm summer memories, too!

Happy Weekend!

I dug in the sand and I carefully made
A big sand castle with my pail and spade.
I felt like a queen in a golden crown
Until the blue sea washed my sand castle down.
So I dug again in that sandy shore
Until I had a bigger castle
and was queen once more!

Long May She Wave

"Resolved, that the flag of the United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white; that the union be thirteen stars, white in a blue field representing a new constellation."
-Marine Committee of the Second Continental Congress, June 14, 1777

Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States by the Second Continental Congress in 1777.

The stripes represent the original 13 colonies.
The stars represent the 50 states of the union.

The colors of our flag are symbolic, too.
White stands for purity and innocence.
Red stands for hardiness and valor.
Blue stands for vigilance, perseverance and justice.

You're a grand old flag,
You're a high flying flag
And forever in peace may you wave.
You're the emblem of
The land I love.
The home of the free and the brave.
Ev'ry heart beats true
'neath the Red, White and Blue,
Where there's never a boast or brag.
Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the grand old flag.

Here's to 26 years!

My husband and I are celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary today! In honor of the occasion, I baked one of his favorite cakes ... from SCRATCH (see recipe below)! I must really, REALLY love him!!

And, of course, I do! (No pun intended!) I've literally followed that man around the world and back. He's my best friend and soulmate. The very best part is I'd do it all over again ... in a ♥-beat!
(The picture is our actual wedding cake topper!)

German Chocolate Cake
4 (1 oz.) squares German sweet chocolate
½ cup water
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups white sugar
4 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup buttermilk
4 egg whites

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line bottom of 9" x13" pan with parchment paper. Microwave chocolate and water on high for 1½ to 2 minutes. Stir halfway through. Stir until chocolate is melted and smooth. In a medium bowl, mix together flour, soda and salt. Set aside. In a large bowl, cream 1 cup butter and 2 cups sugar until light and fluffy. Add 4 egg yolks one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in chocolate and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk. Beat after each addition until smooth. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites on high until soft peaks form. Gently fold into batter. Pour into 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center of cake comes out clean. Cool completely. Frost with coconut pecan frosting.

Shopped 'til we dropped!

This is a First Monday Trade Days weekend. And my husband, daughter, and I shopped ‘til we dropped in Canton, Texas!! Billed “the world's largest flea market,” Canton is a shopper’s paradise! Once a month, this little town comes alive with vendors and dealers galore ...

... peddling antiques...

... collectibles...

... home decor...

... art, clothing, shoes, jewelry, tools, produce, puppies and more!!

The grounds are so large that it is impossible to see everything in a day. And at 100+ degrees today, it was a Texas scorcher!!
But we shopped 'til we dropped ... and came home with treasures, sunburns, tired tootsies, and big smiles!
Fun times!!

National Donut Day!

Today is National Donut Day!
Yes, you read that right ... there is a national holiday for donuts!
How sweet is that?!

National Donut Day falls on the first Friday of June each year in recognition of the Donut Day event created by the Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I (Wikipedia).

Krispy Kreme and Dunkin' Donuts are giving away FREE donuts today!! (And in Krispy Kreme's case, get 'em while they're hot!) We have to celebrate national holidays, don't we?!

Happy National Donut Day!!

Kit and Cat

You'll find Kit and Cat on my selling blog!

I'm tickled pink! Admittedly, I'm not the most technologically savvy individual in the world ... so I absolutely love it when I figure out how to do something new with my iPhone! Today I managed (don't ask me how!) to set up a conference call with both of my siblings and my mother!! How cool is that?!

Now ... if I could only get my iPhone to sew! Unfortunately, there's no app for that!!
