"These heroes are dead. They died for liberty - they died for us. They are at rest. They sleep in the land they made free, under the flag they rendered stainless, under the solemn pines, the sad hemlocks, the tearful willows, and the embracing vines. They sleep beneath the shadows of the clouds, careless alike of sunshine or of storm, each in the windowless Place of Rest. Earth may run red with other wars - they are at peace. In the midst of battle, in the roar of conflict, they found the serenity of death. I have one sentiment for soldiers living and dead: cheers for the living; tears for the dead."

Today is the day I was "hatched"!

I was "flocked" today! In honor of my birthday, my daughter, Whitney, surprised me with 50 black flamingos!! They are the funniest creatures! She even decked them out for the occasion! Some are sporting leopard-print bows ... others wear flower leis ... one wears a dress ... and another wields a wand! You should see the looks on my neighbors faces as they drive by ... my flock is quite a sight to behold!

Another Birthday!

Someone else is celebrating a birthday this month! Pac-Man is 30 years old today! To celebrate, Google has dedicated its homepage to the little yellow semi-circle. Check out Google's interactive logo and play Pac-Man for free (you won't have to insert a single quarter in your computer)! Happy Birthday Pac-Man!!

The BIG 5-0!

The mailman left a package at my front door today! When I saw the return address logo, I knew it was too late ... I'd been found out! There is no escaping it, I turn "that" age on Monday.

Inside the box, I found this funny card ... and all sorts of AARP goodies!
I know who "ratted" me out! My Mom (of all people)!! Having been an AARP State President, she has "connections" and really good friends at the Nevada State AARP Office. They were sweet to remember my birthday, don't you think?!

Only 4 more days ... but who's counting!!

Melancholy Monday

I'm aging dozens and dozens of grubby tags today. Now mind you, I don't mind making grubby tags ... it's my fingers that aren't happy about it! I always begin the process with good intentions (i.e., wearing disposable plastic gloves) but before I know it, I've shed the gloves and my hands are knuckle deep in walnut ink! The stuff does a great job of staining tags ... and my cuticles! Yuck!! Oh well, it's one of the hazards of the job ...

And speaking of jobs, I'm melancholy about giving up my website. The last 8 years have been quite an adventure and I've been lucky enough to meet some of the sweetest people in the world!! I keep telling myself change is good...

change is good...

change is good!

Here's to the next adventure!!

Happy Mother's Day!

A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.

Lancaster, PA

Wondering where I've been?

I was fortunate enough to spend several days in God's country ... Lancaster, Pennsylvania!

I met some of the most amazing, talented, funny, and sweet women!

We shopped at wonderful places like The Cinnamon Stick! Owner, Judy, is as nice as can be!!

Homespun Woolens and Yard Goods ... pure eye candy!

And Connie's Olde Grantville General Store is prim heaven!
So many fun places to shop ... so little time!
They say "a picture paints a thousand words" ...
so I'll stop gabbing and let you enjoy a few snapshots of Lancaster County.

(These home-baked cream puffs were the size of baseballs!)

I hope I'm lucky enough to experience Lancaster again!
And reconnect with this fun group of kindred spirits!
Happy memories!!
