Color My World

Create and Decorate: The Blog recently asked readers to submit comments describing dream locations for creative inspiration. I submitted my dream location ... and was chosen as one of the contest winners!

Hawaii is my most favorite place on Earth! Wish I'd won a trip there, but the markers are very fun, too!

Can't wait to color outside the lines...

My “baby” boy is 21! A manall grown up!!

When did this little guy ...

… become this handsome young man?

Nicholas is so much like me. (It’s actually a little scary!)
He’s also kind,

a worrier,
and a perfectionist.

His passions are movies, guitars, music and Christmas.

Over the years, the themes of his birthday cakes have changed. I still remember
the Sesame Street cake...
the Power Rangers cake...
the Lion King cake...
the pirate ship cake...
the Sponge Bob cake...
the Pink Floyd cake...
the guitar cake…

He’ll be home from college in a couple of days to celebrate with us...and eat cake!

Until then...Happy Birthday, Nick!

"I'll love you forever,
I'll like you for always,
as long as I'm living
my baby you'll be."

Do you Bunco?

It’s Bunco night! Once a month, I get together with a group of friends to play Bunco. It’s a dice game which involves absolutely no skill … just luck! Here’s to a night of fun … good food … and lots of laughs!

Wish me luck!!

Animal Magnetism

My daughter is back from Turkey. She had the best time, but - just between you and me - I am happy that she is home! She brought me a pashmina wrap. It’s leopard print … and I love it!!

That’s something you probably didn’t know about me. I adore anything leopard! I even have leopard print pajamas … okay, that’s probably too much information! (If it helps, they are flannel!) :::grin:::

Happy Spring!

A chance of flurries on the first day of spring? Say it ain’t so!!

It was beautiful yesterday … temperatures in the 70’s. Folks were wearing shorts and flip-flops. Apparently, Old Man Winter isn’t finished with us yet. Today, with temperatures plummeting into the 30’s, they are calling for a chance of snow!

And no, I’m not going ice skating … I don’t even know how! I found these vintage ice skates at an estate sale yesterday. I’m not sure what I’ll do with them, but I couldn’t pass them up! I suppose I could learn to ice skate. (You’ll find a skating rink in practically every mall in Texas! No kidding!!) On second thought, I’ll just put the skates away for now … and curl up with a cup of hot cocoa.

Stop taunting me, Mother Nature … it’s NOT nice!

Now, what did I do with my mittens...?

She's all heart!

Allow me to present, The Queen of Hearts accompanied by the Cheshire Cat!
They can be found on eBay.

My house smells like cookies! Do you know what that means? It means my son is coming home from college!! I always bake chocolate chip cookies when my little “bird” flies back to the nest. Welcome home, Nicholas!

And speaking of “birdies” … my daughter is in Turkey! She’s flying home on Sunday. I can’t wait to see her pictures (she’s probably taken a is her passion)! Happy Trails, Whitney!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

May your thoughts be as glad as the shamrocks.
May your heart be as light as a song.
May each day bring your bright happy hours,
That stay with you all year long.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Happy Mail!

The postman delivered happy mail yesterday! What a thrill to open my mailbox and find an unexpected package instead of a stack of bills! My friend, Sue, sent this surprise box of goodies.

Thank you, Sweet Sue ... for making me feel special!

Doing the happy dance,

Grow your own Easter grass!

Tuck colorful Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies in a basket filled with real grass! Or go green … and create a stunning living centerpiece for your holiday table. For best results, plant your grass garden a couple of weeks before Easter.

Things you’ll need:
Cellophane or plastic wrap
Grass, rye, or wheat seed
Vermiculite (available at gardening centers) or potting soil
Basket or other container
Spray bottle

Line a basket with cellophane or plastic wrap. Cellophane should stick up over the edge of the basket (use a single piece to prevent leakage). Trim excess cellophane, if desired. Fill the basket with vermiculite (or potting soil). Sprinkle seeds on top of the vermiculite. Cover the seeds with a thin (1/4”) layer of vermiculite. Mist the vermiculite with a spray bottled filled with water. Place basket in a warm and sunny window. Mist daily to keep soil damp. Grass should begin sprouting in just a few days. After 10 days, you should have a gorgeous green grass garden! “Mow” the grass with scissors to keep your mini garden well-manicured.

Happy Spring!

Sunshine on my shoulder...

...makes me happy! See's Candies make me happy, too!

My mom sent me a box of my favorite See's chocolates! How sweet is that?! She knows how much I butterscotch squares ... melt-in-your-mouth brown sugar and vanilla buttercream! Yummy!! Those little chocolate squares - nestled in their brown glassine paper cups - are completely addictive. Help me ... they're calling my name!

Thanks, Mom! You're the best!!

Chocolate Bunnies

I love making yummy faux chocolate bunnies!

I can't have real chocolate in my house because I don't have a shred of willpower! There, I admitted it! An open bag of chocolate candy doesn't stand a chance. It's the same every Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Easter. It never fails ... if I open a bag of candy before the actual holiday, I will inevitably make another trip to the store for a replacement bag of candy!

My name is Vicki ... and I am a chocoholic!

Thinking sweet thoughts...

Pretty in Pink

When I got off the plane Tuesday evening, my dear hubby was waiting for me with a bouquet of roses! Every time I go away, he brings me flowers. And the flowers are always pink roses … my favorite! I think he does it because he missed me and is happy I’m home. But, between you and me, he also gets a kick out of the attention a bouquet of flowers garners. Women, in particular, whisper and nudge their husbands, pointing at the flowers. The husbands invariably grimace! Sometimes, people actually tell my husband what a sweet guy he is …

...and I have to agree! He’s a keeper!
